Links, bookmarks and forms

Links don't say where they go

Link text like "click here" or a long web address doesn't tell the reader where the link leads.

Who it affects

People who use screen readers. They often hear a list of just the links on a page.

Why it matters

A list of "click here, click here, click here" is useless, and long web addresses are read out letter by letter.

How to fix it

  1. Write link text that makes sense on its own, such as "Download the 2026 budget (PDF)".
  2. In Word: right-click the link, choose Edit Hyperlink, and change "Text to display".

What RemeDocs does

RemeDocs makes links readable by screen readers, but the wording of the link has to be changed in the original file.
